Single padel court dimensions
A single padel court is 20 × 6 m in common use: the same length as a doubles court, 4 m narrower. It is not an FIP measurement, and here is who does give it, how it compares with a doubles court and where one fits.
Single padel court size: 20 × 6 m
The FIP Rules of Padel define one court: 10 m wide by 20 m long, inside measurements. They say nothing about a singles court. In the UK, neither the LTA guidance note nor the SAPCA code of practice gives a singles size either: both describe the 20 × 10 m court.
The only governing body we found that gives a figure is the German Tennis Federation (DTB): its padel guide lists the standard court as 20 × 10 m for doubles and the singles court as 20 × 6 m, “for training or smaller areas” (our translation). That is the size manufacturers build and the one the planner uses.
The drawing keeps the doubles court’s length and its service lines 6.95 m from the net. No rule sets the markings, walls or openings of a singles court: ask the manufacturer what it builds. A singles court is not a cheaper doubles court: it holds half the players. It earns its place where the space left over is too narrow for a doubles court.
Where a single padel court fits
A singles court is 4 m narrower, so it fits strips that a doubles court does not. The planner does this for you: tick “include singles courts” and it places every doubles court that fits first, then fills what is left with singles; if no doubles court fits at all, it tries singles on its own. With the LTA clearances (1.5 m around each court, the 8 × 2 m access zone and a 1.2 m route to the exit), from our layouts:
| Space | Dimensions | Doubles | Singles added |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20,000 sq ft warehouse | 34.0 × 54.5 m | 4 | 2 |
| 60,000 sq ft warehouse | 59.0 × 94.5 m | 16 | 4 |
| Two tennis courts side by side | 37.0 × 36.5 m | 2 | 1 |
Outdoors, a 12 × 25 m strip (39 ft 4 in × 82 ft) takes a singles court with those clearances; a doubles court needs about 14 m of width. A side strip of a garden or a club site can be exactly that: see padel court at home.
The figures come from the layout engine: clear-span buildings with 8 m clear height and one entrance on a long side, and open sites. Columns, doors and the shape of the site change them.
Frequently asked questions
What are the dimensions of a single padel court?
In common use, 20 × 6 m (65 ft 7 in × 19 ft 8 in), 120 m² of playing area against 200 m² for a doubles court. That size is not in the FIP Rules of Padel, which only describe the 20 × 10 m court; the German Tennis Federation’s padel guide lists 20 × 6 m for singles, for training or smaller areas.
Is a single padel court an official FIP court?
No. The FIP Rules of Padel describe one court, 20 × 10 m, and are written for pairs. A singles court is a format some clubs build for training and one-against-one play; it is not homologated as an FIP competition court.
How much space does a single padel court need?
The court is 20 × 6 m. With the LTA clearances (1.5 m around the court and an 8 × 2 m access zone at the side), our layout engine fits a singles court in a 12 × 25 m outdoor strip (39 ft 4 in × 82 ft), where a doubles court needs about 14 m of width.
Can you play singles on a normal padel court?
You can knock up one against one on any court, but the FIP rules are written for doubles: the scoring and the order of serve refer to two pairs. A narrower singles court is what clubs build for one-against-one play.
Single vs double padel court: which should I build?
Doubles, if the space allows: it is the court of the rules and of almost all play. A singles court earns its place on a strip where a doubles court does not fit, for training, coaching and one-against-one games.
How big is a single padel court in feet?
20 × 6 m is about 65 ft 7 in × 19 ft 8 in, or roughly 1,290 sq ft of playing area.
