Panoramic padel court: what it means

A panoramic padel court has glass walls without posts between the panels, so nothing breaks the view. The court, the walls and the rules are the same as on a standard court. What changes, what “crystal” and “full panoramic” mean, and what to ask in a quote.

Meaning

Panoramic padel court meaning

The FIP Rules of Padel do not use the word. They fix the walls (3 m of wall, glass or another solid material, and mesh above it to 4 m) but not how the glass is held. “Panoramic” is how manufacturers describe courts that leave out the posts between the glass panels. The SAPCA code of practice shows a panoramic end wall as one of its two end-wall examples, next to a standard one.

TypePostsWhat you see
StandardPosts between the glass panels, along the back walls and the sides. The posts interrupt the view through the glass.
PanoramicNo posts between the panels; in one manufacturer’s definition, “no central pillars, only corner posts”.Clear glass along each wall, broken only at the corners.
Full or super panoramicNo central and no corner posts; the same manufacturer secures the glass to a steel beam at the top and bottom. The view is open all round the court.

There is no standard definition behind these names, so two manufacturers can use them for different structures. The only safe way to compare is to ask which posts each model keeps.

Panoramic padel court vs normal

Everything the rules measure is the same: the 20 × 10 m court, the back walls of 3 m of wall and 1 m of mesh (13 ft 1 in in total), the side walls, the openings, the net. A panoramic court is not a different court, it is a different structure for the same court.

  • For spectators and filming, the panoramic court is the one without posts in the way.
  • For the build, ask about the glass, the wind rating and the foundation: see the list below.
  • For UK glass, the rule is the same for both: 12 mm toughened outdoors and under canopies; 10 mm can be considered indoors. More on padel court glass.
Side walls

Panoramic vs crystal: the two FIP side walls

The FIP rules allow two kinds of side wall. When people say “crystal” they usually mean the second, Variant 2 Crystal. Panoramic describes the posts; the variant describes the shape of the walls. Back walls are the same in both.

Side wall, Variant 1: stepped

At each end a step 3 m high × 2 m long, then a second step 2 m high × 2 m long; mesh completes the enclosure, up to 3 m in the centre and up to 4 m at both ends.

Side wall, Variant 2 Crystal: glass without a step

At each end a wall 3 m high × 4 m long, with no step; mesh completes the enclosure, up to 4 m high over the end 2 m.

Quotes

What to ask in a panoramic padel court quote

Ask every installer the same questions, so a panoramic court from one is comparable with a panoramic court from another:

Ask aboutWhy, and the UK reference
Which posts remainAsk exactly which posts the model keeps: between the panels, at the corners, or none. The words “panoramic” and “full panoramic” are not used the same way by every manufacturer.
Glass thickness and markingFor the UK, the LTA and SAPCA ask for 12 mm toughened glass on outdoor courts and on courts under a canopy; 10 mm can be considered indoors. Each panel individually kitemarked.
Wind ratingSAPCA asks the manufacturer to state the maximum wind speed the court is built to withstand, and the maximum wind loads on the enclosure, so the engineer can design the foundation.
Steel and corrosion protectionSAPCA recommends at least 3 mm for steel profiles, pre-galvanised steel with zinc electroplating after fabrication and an epoxy primer, and hot-dip galvanising or aluminium in highly corrosive (coastal) locations.
Side-wall variantStepped (FIP Variant 1) or glass without a step (Variant 2 Crystal): the quote should say which, as it changes the amount of glass.
LightingWhether the luminaires go on extended enclosure posts, the method SAPCA prefers, 4 m from the back wall along the sides, or on separate columns.
WarrantyAt least 10 years against structural failure of the enclosure (LTA and SAPCA), and at least 15 years on the materials of the supporting posts (SAPCA). Manufacturers’ warranties often cover only wear and corrosion of components.

Panoramic padel court price

We have found no UK source that prices panoramic and standard courts separately, so we do not give a figure. The LTA’s reference is £36,000 for one court with lights and £35,000 for its ring beam, base and drainage outdoors, whatever the model. The way to see the difference is to have both models quoted on the same plan: padel court quotes · padel court cost in the UK.

Frequently asked questions

What does panoramic padel court mean?

A court whose glass walls have no posts between the panels, so the view through the glass is not interrupted. “Panoramic” is a manufacturers’ term, not an FIP one: one manufacturer defines its panoramic court as having no central pillars, only corner posts, and its full panoramic court as having no central or corner posts.

Panoramic padel court vs normal: what is the difference?

The court is the same size, with the same wall and mesh heights, under the same FIP rules. The difference is the structure that holds the glass: a standard court has posts between the panels; a panoramic court does not.

Panoramic vs crystal padel court?

They answer different questions. “Panoramic” is about the posts that hold the glass. “Crystal” usually refers to the FIP’s Variant 2 Crystal side walls: glass 3 m high and 4 m long at each end of the sides, with no step, instead of the stepped Variant 1.

What is a super panoramic or full panoramic padel court?

A court with no corner posts either, so the glass runs uninterrupted round the corners. In one manufacturer’s design the glass is secured to a steel beam at the top and bottom.

How much does a panoramic padel court cost?

We have no UK source that prices panoramic and standard courts separately. The LTA puts one court with lights at £36,000, and the ring beam, base and drainage outdoors at £35,000, without splitting by type. Ask for both models on the same plan to see the difference.

How is a panoramic padel court installed in the UK?

Like any court: on a foundation designed by a UK structural engineer for the ground and the local wind loads, usually a reinforced concrete ring beam, with the enclosure bolted to it. The manufacturer should state the maximum wind loads so the foundation can be designed for them.
