Padel court calculator
Not a rule of thumb. You draw your building with its columns, its doors and its real clear height, and the planner places the courts that meet the FIP court dimensions and the portal's clearances, with a walkway to the exit from each. Free and with no sign-up until the final plan.
Six steps, from an empty building to a plan
The space
Width and length of the building or site, in feet or meters, indoors or outdoors, and the roof: flat, gable, mono-pitch or arched, with its eave and ridge heights.
What is there
Columns (single or on a grid), entrances, fire exits, areas kept for the front desk or locker rooms, and areas you cannot build on.
The rules
Minimum clearances or a competition layout, singles courts or not, and north–south orientation outdoors.
The layout
The engine places as many courts as comply with every rule and checks the walkway from each one to the exit. You can then move, rotate or lock them by hand.
The 3D view
Courts with their glass, mesh and lights inside your building, to show a partner or the bank.
The plan
A PDF with the dimensions of every court, the access zones, the walkways and the rules applied.
Why you cannot just divide by 2,150 sq ft
A court is 20 × 10 m (about 65.6 × 32.8 ft, 2,150 sq ft), but it needs a clear 26.2 ft × 6.6 ft zone at the side opening, room between courts and a 3.9 ft clear walkway to the exit. Add columns and the clear height under the trusses and the sums change again. In a 20,000 sq ft building, that works out at about 5,000 sq ft per court.
The rules the calculator applies by default: an FIP court (20 × 10 m inside); a clear access zone 6.6 ft (2 m) deep along 26.2 ft (8 m) of the side opening; 1.6 ft (0.5 m) between courts side by side and 3.3 ft (1 m) between ends and to the walls; a 3.9 ft (1.2 m) clear walkway from every court to the entrance; and at least 19.7 ft (6 m) of clear height. The USPA does not publish spacing between courts on its website, so these are the portal's own minimums; the competition preset is more generous. See padel court dimensions for what the FIP sets.
What you need to hand
- The inside width and length of the building.
- The clear height under the trusses or joists (not the ridge height) and, if the roof is pitched, the eave height.
- Where the columns are and how far apart, and where the doors are.
If you do not have them yet, start from a typical building size and open it in the calculator to adjust it, or try a tennis court. To see everything the planner does, read about the padel court planner.
