How many padel courts fit in a 40,000 sq ft warehouse?
In a clear-span building of 48 × 77.5 m (3,720 m²) with 8 m clear height, 12 padel courts fit with the LTA clearances, also with a competition layout.
Open in the plannerWhy 12 courts
A court is 20 × 10 m, about 2,150 sq ft, but you cannot put them wall to wall. The engine applies:
- Access zone: 8 × 2 m kept clear at the side opening, centred on the net (the LTA's 8 m × 2 m player access).
- Between courts: 1.5 m, as the LTA guidance recommends, and the same to the walls.
- Route to the exit: 1.2 m clear from every court to the entrance.
| Layout | Courts | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| LTA clearances | 12 | Access zone on one side, 1.5 m between courts and to the walls |
| Competition | 12 | 2 m clear all round and an exit on both sides |
That is about 3,300 sq ft of building per court. Changing rooms, reception and a café need their own space: in the planner you mark them as a reserved area and the courts go around them.
For a sense of scale, the LTA puts 4 courts with lighting at £128,000; the fit-out of the building comes on top. See padel court cost in the UK and whether the numbers work.
Clear height: the FIP asks for at least 6 m clear above the whole court and recommends 8 m. Measure it under the lowest thing over the court (truss, light, duct), not at the ridge.
